Tier 1 Manufacturer Contracting & Enablement

Purchasing Services continually investigates opportunities for new supplier cost savings and increased participation in the Penn Marketplace to further streamline the ordering process for all BEN Buys users.

The Tier 1 Manufacturer Contracting and Enablement initiative helps Purchasing Services achieve two goals: leverage annual spend with Penn's top volume manufactures and enable of manufacturer specific online catalogs in the Penn Marketplace. Campus wide and School and Center specific strategic sourcing activities provides visibility into total university spend with key manufacturers across all major commodity areas. The top volume manufacturers in each commodity area will be recruited for inclusion in this initiative.

Who Benefits from this Initiative?

  • Customers
BEN Buys users receive manufacturer supported discounts that are generally deeper than what is available directly from a contract distributor. The manufacturer enabled catalogs also make it easier to find the desired products in the Penn Marketplace.
  • Manufacturers
Direct participation in the Penn Marketplace provides greater visibility to a manufacturer's product offering and offers new internal marketing opportunities via the Supplier Showcase program.
  • Distributors
Mapping the distribution channel for manufacturer enabled Penn Marketplace suppliers to preferred contract suppliers supports existing contractual relationships and results in increased market share for participating suppliers.
  • Penn
Leveraging manufacturer relationships will result in new cost savings and value added benefit opportunities resulting from a more strategic alliance with the manufacturer.
