Corning Life Sciences Research Products Competitive Bidding Project

Purchasing Services has launched a new Corning Life Sciences Research Products Competitive Bidding Project that is intended to produce an industry "best-in-class" discount pricing agreement, enable Corning as a direct manufacturer catalog in the Penn Marketplace, and streamline the distribution channel through a sole source distributor. This project is a strategic sourcing initiative designed to maximize the University's buying power in collaboration with Corning Life Sciences.

Phase I

Phase I of this project is the negotiation of a new "best-in-class" discount pricing agreement that covers the entire product offering and identifies specific eBusiness capabilities and Penn specific marketing requirements for an authorized distributor of Corning products to the Penn research community.

Phase II

Phase II of this project is a formal competitive bidding project for a sole source distributor for Corning products. The formal Request for Proposal (RFP) was issued on November 16, 2007. The project goal is to review bidder proposals, select an authorized distributor, and launch the formal contract with Corning enabled in the Penn Marketplace on February 1, 2008.

Phase III

After a formal review of the supplier responses to the Request for Proposal, and in collaboration with Corning, Purchasing Services has awarded a contract to Neta Scientific to become the exclusive preferred contract supplier of Corning life science products effective September 1, 2008.
