Local Community Business
Launched in 1986, the Local Community Business initiative is designed to identify
West and Southwest Philadelphia
based suppliers that can provide the products and services required by Penn,
have the capacity and capability to meet Penn's business and eProcurement technology
requirements, at a competitive price. Our goal is to create a meaningful
and mutually beneficial business relationship with those suppliers that can add value
to our institution and help us achieve our supply chain business objectives.
Opportunities for local community based suppliers could be on a direct basis or in
strategic partnerships with major regional and national firms.
In fiscal year 2008 alone, Penn purchased approximately $89.6 million
(approximately 11% of total purchase order spend) in products and services from
local community based suppliers, bringing the total spend with local community
based suppliers since FY1986 to approximately $847 million.
Purchasing Services can assist qualified local community based suppliers with
the development of their eProcurement capabilities for enablement in Penn's industry
leading eProcurement program.
The Penn Marketplace provides
participating suppliers with a competitive advantage against competing suppliers.
Purchasing Services is partnering with SciQuest Incorporated, Penn's eProcurement
business partner, to provide eProcurement technology skills development services
to qualified local community based suppliers.
We encourage local community based suppliers who meet our business requirements
to contact us to pursue a new or enhance an
existing business relationship with the University of Pennsylvania.
