Green Purchasing - Supporting a Green Campus Partnership
Purchasing Services is committed to environmental stewardship through green
purchasing, conservation, and construction designed to conserve natural resources
and preserving the environment in support of the President's commitment to
& University Presidents Climate Commitment. Environmental stewardship initiatives
include the purchase of recycled content products, environmentally preferable products
and services, bio-based products, energy and water-efficient products, alternate
fuel vehicles, products using renewable energy, and disposal of solid waste.
Listed below is general information regarding sustainable initiatives at Penn
including specific Purchasing Services related information.
Each of the supply management business partners listed below
contributes to Penn's Green Campus Partnership.
Purchasing Services encourages the University community to purchase environmentally
friendly products that are made with post-consumer recycled content, recyclable,
energy efficient, and/or bio-based products from
Penn Marketplace participating suppliers.

Travel Services supports the University's commitment to sustainability in its
management of travel services and related service providers.

Services is committed to sustainable print purchasing practices by promoting
earth-friendly, recycled-fiber paper stock for the Penn branded stationery contract
and other printing requirements.

supports the University's commitment to sustainability by recycling no-value mail
(advertisements, magazines, postcards, etc.) at the rate of approximately 400 pounds
Purchasing Services created a new annual performance metric for
that have been incorporated into the
Procure-to-Pay (P2P) Performance Metrics.
Purchase activity for FY2008 will be tracked and used as a baseline to measure
performance in future fiscal years.
