Creating Synergies in the Supply Chain
At the University of Pennsylvania, the work of Purchasing Services
and the resolve of our senior leadership to place procurement and supply management
on the leading edge of Penn's cost containment efforts enable us to leverage our
annual buying power and strategically impact the institution's bottom line.
Purchasing Services,
and its supply business partners under the auspices of the University's
Division of
Business Services, manage the University's procure-to-pay process and over
$1 billion of annual purchase of construction, equipment, supplies, travel, print
and design, and service requirements.
At the University of Pennsylvania, we work hard to ensure that the products and
services we purchase meet the unique needs of the faculty and staff we serve. We
partner with suppliers in many product categories and that range from multi-national
corporations to small locally based businesses. Maintaining a diverse mix of
qualified suppliers is the key to our success. We rely on our suppliers to provide
the products and services our customers want and expect.
Our BEN Buys online procure-to-pay system, along with the Penn Marketplace, makes
purchasing easy for faculty and staff, increases administrative efficiencies and
operational performance - all for the express purpose of providing the highest
standards of customer service and support, at least total cost, to increase the value
of every dollar of funding. Process efficiencies and cost savings achieved as a
result of innovative supply chain strategies produce significant Return-on-Investment
(ROI) that goes straight to the institution's bottom line and can be used to support
other critical investments.
Our supply chain accomplishments are recognized
in the industry and result in prestige for Penn. This commitment to procurement
excellence and cost effective supply chain services fulfills a primary directive of
our Mission: "to steward the resources entrusted to us."
