IBM/Lenovo Battery Recall

Thursday, September 28, 2006

IBM and Lenovo are recalling certain batteries that were used with various models of their ThinkPad portable line sold between February 2005 and September 2006. There is a possibility that these batteries can overheat, which could cause a fire risk.

Affected machines sold in the United States include:

  • IBM/Lenovo ThinkPad T43, T43p, T60, and T60p
  • IBM/Lenovo ThinkPad X60 and X60s
  • IBM/Lenovo ThinkPad R51e, R52, R60, and R60e

Lenovo is prepared to dispatch a replacement battery upon the receipt of the replacement order.

For further information, including specifics on checking the battery serial numbers, see ISC's news article or Lenovo's Battery Recall site.

To provide the University with a more complete picture of our vulnerability to this recall, please email John Mulhern III at mulhernj@isc.upenn.edu if you find any laptop batteries that are included in this recall.
