UPS Express & Logistics

A University Strategic Alliance Partner

The new strategic alliance with UPS will enable the University to utilize the UPS logistics services and technologies to streamline its outbound package shipping and inbound campus delivery system.

Express Shipping Services

Effective July 1, 2008, UPS will be Penn's exclusive provider of outbound express shipping services (Ground, Air, and International) for all Penn departments. UPS will offer many benefits to Penn faculty and staff:

  • State-of-the-art online shipping including desk top printed shipping labels, eliminating the need for completing manual shipping forms.
  • Penn negotiated discount pricing so that Penn faculty and staff receive the best possible price with significant cost savings include a very aggressive cap on fuel surcharges.
  • Enhanced external package tracking and reporting capabilities for School and Center administrators.
  • Internal budgetary controls including online allocation of shipping charges.

The express mail online system was launched on July 1, 2008, and fully implemented by the end of August. Throughout the summer, Penn Mail Services and UPS will provide training to users for the online shipping system and place drop-boxes across campus.

In-Bound Supplier Shipments

Effective July 1, 2008, UPS is Penn's preferred provider of in-bound shipments to all Penn campus locations. This strategic initiative with UPS includes the following:

  • In-bound services for purchase order shipments to all Penn campus locations
  • Transportation services to streamline on-campus deliveries, enhance package tracking, reduce on-campus vehicle traffic in support the University's commitment to sustainability and campus safety
  • New cost containment opportunities

UPS Account Executives will be contacting Penn's contract and marketplace suppliers for the purpose of implementing new in-bound procedures and services for all shipments to Penn. It is our expectation that ever effort will be made by our preferred suppliers to support this strategic initiative and assist in the transition of in-bound shipments to UPS. Purchasing Services will assist UPS and our preferred suppliers to ensure a smooth and seamless transition to UPS.
