Surplus Property
Purchasing Services supports prudent stewardship of University assets by promoting the consideration
of reusing quality surplus items generated on campus prior to considering the purchase of new items.
Disposal of Computing Equipment
The Office of the
Comptroller, in conjunction with the
Business Advisory
Board, issued
Financial
Policy 1106.31, Plant Assets-Disposal of Computing Equipment. This policy, which has an
effective date of October 1, 2004, complements the
existing
Plant Asset series of policies by providing specific guidelines for the disposal of
computing equipment that no longer meets the current business needs of the department.
In general, departments may donate, sell or recycle computing equipment that no longer meets
either the current needs of the department or the minimum qualifications to remain on the
campus network.
Ben's Attic
In order to facilitate the repurposing of surplus University supplies and equipment (non-computing), Purchasing Services has created the Ben's Attic surplus property exchange site. Ben's Attic is an online application hosted on the University of Pennsylvania Purchasing Services website which provides a service for online auctions or sales for other departments which have surplus supplies or equipment. All faculty and staff members with a PENNkey may view suggested listings, however only TAC (Transaction Authorization Card) cardholders and their designees may suggest a new listing, bid on or purchase an item.
All prospective users are requested to read the Policies Governing the Use of Ben's Attic before proceeding to the site.
